Background
On November 5, 2022, during the opening ceremony of the 14th Conference of the Contracting Parties (COP14) to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, President Xi Jinping announced the establishment of the International Mangrove Center in Shenzhen. To actively support this initiative, the Mangrove Conservation Foundation has established the International Mangrove Special Fund, leveraging its role as a non-governmental organization to unite global stakeholders, particularly socially responsible enterprises, in advancing international collaboration and public participation.
The project supports international cooperation in mangrove conservation and restoration through the development of best-practice case studies, the promotion of cultural recognition for mangrove conservation, the enhancement of international exchanges and capacity building, and the establishment of sustainable funding mechanisms. By implementing Nature-based Solutions (NbS) across global mangrove regions, the project seeks to support sustainable livelihoods in mangrove communities, promote climate adaptation, and make meaningful contributions to global sustainable development.
