Background

Public participation is one of the key elements for the long-term success of wetland conservation efforts. Through enriching wetland education activities, the goal is to raise public awareness about wetland protection, which is the first step in engaging the public in conservation work. Youth, especially students, represent a crucial group in wetland conservation, as they are at a critical stage in developing a healthy ecological worldview. Therefore, this project aims to develop multi-level wetland protection actions that engage the public, particularly students, in fostering long-term supporters for wetland conservation.

Mission

The project aims to offer multi-level, accessible wetland protection actions that enhance public awareness and knowledge of wetland conservation, with a special focus on middle and primary school students. It seeks to identify long-term supporters for wetland conservation efforts, including individuals and institutions.

Focus Area 1: Wetland Education for Students

The project will support the development of wetland-related curriculum in primary and secondary schools, including teacher training, curriculum development, and field studies. It seeks to integrate wetland education into the formal education system. Activities such as creating "wetland nature journals" and setting up "birdwatching corners" will link wetland protection areas with schools, encouraging students to explore wetlands, learn about wetland ecosystems, and develop a sense of love for these environments, ultimately motivating them to engage in wetland protection actions.

Focus Area 2: Citizen Science to Enhance Public Scientific Literacy

Citizen science initiatives focused on wetlands can improve public scientific literacy, deepen understanding of wetland conservation efforts, and provide valuable data to support scientific research on wetlands. These activities are designed based on the actual needs of wetland conservation work. By offering professional training, the project will enable the public to take on more active roles as participants and supporters of wetland protection efforts.
